Free Hotel Collection Service Is Back
October 12, 2020
That's right our FREE hotel collection service is back again this winter. That means that any of our surfers that are booked to join us for surfing lessons can simply ask for a ride and we will come and get them from their place and take them back when their surfing lesson is complete. So hows this gonna work? When you make a you surf lesson booking just drop me a note in the notes section. Tell me where to come and get you and I'll be there to collect you. It might take a few more emails to get the fine details in there and firm up any arrangement so it's super solid. But asking is how you...

How To Choose The Right Surf School
October 09, 2020
With so many Surf Schools in Barbados to choose from how do you find the one that is right for you and going to give you the best time surfing? Do you rely on TripAdvisor and the opinions for strangers? Maybe Facebook friends are a more reputable source, knowing your FB friends and their likes or dislikes? I personally don't believe in the many of the opinions on review sharing sites. I love that some of our customers have shared positive reviews about us and that it helps us reach more customers. But I don't believe activities are measured or reviewed correctly like say a hotel or a...

No More GoPro Surf Lessons
August 31, 2020
GoPro cameras became a staple in our surfing lessons a few year back. But sadly we've had to drop them from our surf lessons menu card. For good reason too. It's not all doom and gloom, sad to see them go since it was a massive USP and added value factor for our surfing lessons at Ride The Tide Surf School. BUt after weighing the pro's and con's it was an easy decision to make. So, half way through winter 2018/19 we dropped GoPro’s from our surfing lessons. We had no choice and they had to go. My reasoning for this was simple. Too many were being lost and stolen & then some safety...

Tripadvisor Travelers Choice 2020 Winner
August 27, 2020
Another year and another TripAdvisor certificate of excellence travelers choice award for us at at RTT. Obviously I am pleased and please for the lads that have delivered an excellent product and super grateful to you all, our surfers, for all of the positive reviews - thanks very much! I think there were some average and below par reviews in there and I want to thank the folks for sharing the too. I do wish that any of our customers and surfers that were left unhappy with expectations not met would have spoken to me directly and immediately and given us a chance to make them happy instead of...

Barbados 121 Surfing Lessons
March 14, 2020
121 surfing lessons at Ride The Tide Surf School are just that. You the waves and your surf coach. We take beginners that want the special attention to the details and fast track progression at the beginning of their surf journey as well as those that already surf and want some fine tunning. When you know a little bit about surfing and just need that little bit of extra love to find the next level in your surfing you're never going to find it in a group learning situation. Simply, all eyes are not on you and in a beginner group you'll not have the access to the calibre of waves in order to...

Why Don't We Do Intermediate Surf Lessons?
February 04, 2020
Why Don't We Do Intermediate Surf Lessons? It's simple really. I haven't yet met an intermediate surfer that needs or wants and intermediate surfing lesson! I have meet some accomplished beginners that would like to connect a few dots, jump over a particular stumbling block or dial in a line-up and catch a few more waves than usual at a new surf break and have a happy surf Holiday/vacation in Barbados. With the help of the guys at the surf shop, that's Zac, we have decided to close all intermediate surfing lessons because it's a BS place to start and can only lead to more BS. That means...

Barbados Surf Rainbow At Freight's Bay
February 04, 2020
Barbados Surf Rainbow At Freight's Bay Surfing is one of those sports or activities that is close to nature. And she gives us these moments every now and then, if you are prepared to notice. This rainbow over the Bay at Freight's was truly one of the most magical I've ever seen. I don't think the camera does it justice. It was so bright and it appeared to land nearly at our feet near the bottom of the stairs. It felt like you could reach out a grab it, touch it and roll around in it. Absolutely amazing! It makes for a welcome break from just marveling at the sea turtles all the time. Not that...

Barbados Surfing Winter 2019-2020
January 31, 2020
Barbados Surfing Winter 2019-2020 The winter 2019-2020 surfing season in Barbados has been a banger so far. November saw the beginning of the winter trade swells begin and Freight’s Bay saw some steady early swells with some of the nicest waves for learning, progressing and just all out ripping… on a longboard. That’s my speed, though, keep that classic longboard style. Keep it single fin and find the glide. Deep driving turns and plenty of tip time. Freight’s Bay has to be one of the nicest waves on the island and it’s surely one of the most consistent during the winter months. It doesn’t...

TripAdvisor Certificate Of Excellence 2018
July 09, 2018
TripAdvisor Certificate Of Excellence 2018 Bang! That's another year that we've made the cut and been awarded the Certificate Of Excellence from TripAdvisor. This 5th year on the bounce recieving the the award gives us a double-shot of recognition in the form of the TripAdvisor Hall Of Fame award also. Obviously, myself and the team are super happy to receive these awards but we are more than aware of the fact that we couldn't have done it without our customers leaving us their reviews. We'd like to share our TripAdvisor awards with our surfers and share our thanks with everyone of our...

Hurricane Beryl Barbados
July 09, 2018
Hurricane Beryl Barbados The first Hurricane for the 2018 Atlantic season blew past Barbados yesterday. Nothing major to report. Beryl passed the island as a storm and passed us a long way North of us. There was some rain and a little breeze but nothing like we had to batten down the hatches for. A little bit of much needed rain fell so I will be looking forward to the island being nice a green and a little less greasy. There were waves. Now, I didn't get to surf them yesterday but from what I saw it was a late late pulse over on the east coast with Soup Bowl delivering some lovely near head-...
